Expectation: You'll be able to blame all the stupid things you say on the book
Reality: Your professors are going to judge you anyways.
Expectation: Buying books from the bookstore is going to be fun
Reality: That's 2 grand you are never going to get back
Expectation: You'll just buy it on Amazon to save hundreds upon thousands of dollars
Reality: The editions are different and even though it is the same book, all the books you bought are completely useless
Expectation: If you buy the book you are going to destroy everyone with your vast knowledge
Reality: The only destroying you are going to be doing is hitting people with the expensive books you bought
Expectation: You'll be able to avoid buying the book by speed reading it in the bookstore before class
Reality: That has never worked for anybody. Ever.
Expectation: No one really reads the book anyways, there really is no reason to buy it. Challenge accepted.
Reality: By week three you are lost and there is no turning back
Expectation: Without the book you are going to fail out of college
Reality: The midterm really wasn't that hard, and you exaggerate how well you did without books to all your friends
Expectation: You are going to make it the entire semester without buying a single book. Even when people ask about books, you sarcastically respond
Reality: You feel sick to your stomach more with each passing day and buy the books 2 weeks before the final
No matter what though, your reaction when anyone asks if you have bought the book is always the same
